1st Engineer Officer (SOOW) - Seagoing

Our client, a major Cruise Line has an urgent new requirement for a 1st Engineer Officer.

British Class 1 (Motor) Certificate or equivalent, Eligibility to be issued with a Certificate of Equivalent Competency

Job Description

Main Activities & Responsibilities

The First Engineer reports to the Staff Engineer.

1.1 The First Engineer is responsible for maintaining the main propulsion machinery and engine room auxiliaries in a safe and reliable working condition.

Duties include:

2.1 Liaising with Senior EOOW’s to determine, plan and execute all routine and non-routine maintenance, repairs, with regard to main propulsion machinery and auxiliaries in the machinery spaces.

2.2 Be the first point of contact with regard technical issues arising where assistance may be required by the Watchkeepers.

2.3 Maintaining all machinery spaces in a clean and safe condition.

2.4 Work closely with the Staff Chief Engineer to ensure that all main engine and auxiliary maintenance once completed, is analysed, discussed and recorded with in Amos.

2.5 Making sure all Engine room safety equipment (COSWP) is in place and functioning correctly.

2.6 Follow the forward work planner, as set out by the Staff Chief Engineer, while addressing overnight defects that have been entered into AMOS by the Watchkeepers and compile a daily work list that is available for all concerned to view as required.

2.7 Management and first point of contact for engine room fitters and technical ratings.

2.8 Ensure that all work being carried out is performed in a safe and efficient manner, leading by example and following the guidelines as laid out in COSWP, Fleet Regulations and any Risk Assessment Plan.

2.9 To supervise and train the engine room fitters and ratings to a high standard when carrying out any task given to them.

2.10 Planning and supervising any work being carried out by shore side labour.

2.11 Issuing instructions to Watchkeeper’s, via the Staff Chief Engineer, with regard to equipment availability, equipment that is required to be shut down and isolated for the next day, equipment that requires testing/monitoring. Detailing any special circumstances regarding various systems.
Requirements

• British Class 1 (Motor) Certificate or equivalent, Eligibility to be issued with a Certificate of Equivalent Competency by the UK Marine and Coastguard Agency

• Excellent command of English Language, both written and spoken

• Valid ENG1 Medical Certification

• Eligible for issue of a United States C1/D Visa

• Knowledge and experience of modern marine plant, ideally onboard cruise liners in a similar rank.

• Good IT Skills, and ability to manipulate modern Windows based packages

• Ability to work as part of a large team, and take responsibility for own actions

• Excellent interpersonal skills in dealing with both internal and external customers

• Commitment to own career development, with a desire to progress to higher ranks
